During this time of construction, things will be a little bit different at Southside — we will do our best to keep channels of communication open with the congregation and we ask for your patience during this time. While many of these instructions may seem cumbersome, our goal is to continue to maintain Southside as a safe place for all. If you have any questions and concerns please let us know.
PARKING DURING CONSTRUCTION During construction the east and west side parking lot will no longer be available for church use. Please use the new parking lot. Parking alongside 23rd Street should be reserved for those with mobility issues. And please remember not to park in front of the neighbors’ homes, allowing them parking spaces for their own use.
ENTRANCE TO THE CHURCH During construction, the east entrance to the property through the gate will not be available. Please enter the property through the west gate. The east entrance of the kiva will always be open in case of emergencies, but should generally not be used as an entrance or exit.
RESTROOMS AT SOUTHSIDE We will be down to 3 restrooms during construction leaving only the restroom in the Kiva and the two stalls in the shower room — so it is a good idea to use the restroom before you come to church! Our general practice is going to be to limit the bathrooms in the shower room to women thereby reducing long lines for the kiva bathroom which will remain available for all — with priority given to men and those with mobility issue. That being said, if it is available — use it!
COFFEE HOUR DURING CONSTRUCTION With our demolition of the Fellowship Hall scheduled for this week, preparation of coffee hour will shift to the new library space in the refurbished sanctuary wing. In that space there will be a mini-fridge where food for that morning can be kept. All the refreshments can be placed on tables that will be set up in that space. Congregants will be invited to come and get refreshments and then gather either in the Migrant Shrine Courtyard or in the Kiva— depending on the weather --as there is not enough space for people to visit with each other in the library itself.
The Session continues to request that coffee hour be limited to coffee, punch, and simple finger foods that can be served on paper plates, such as cookies, crackers, cut fruit, etc. The church will provide coffee-making supplies, paper goods, and powdered punch but all other dishes and utensils will no longer be available — so you will need to bring what you need. Also, please make sure that no food is left in the library at the conclusion of coffee hour. Thank you for helping Southside safely provide hospitality and friendship through this season of construction.
Again, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
